Все начинается с эмбиента. Non Fiction - бренд, по мнению авторов серии, заслуживающий видимо наиболее пристального внимания. Ведь первым обычно идет, то, что так или иначе, у музыканта на "острие пера". Таким образом, мы должны согласиться, что могучие эмбиент пэды и синты являются главной темой альбома. Однако, не все так одназначно.
Первые два трека чудесно открывают альбом. Скучный и песситмистичный настрой в The Ghost Train сменяется чудным, немного грустным и ужасно романтичным соответственно своему названию Adore (Non_Fiction Mix). Уже к третьему треку слушатель поймет, что его ожидания могут оказаться неоправданы. После классического мрачного эмбиента The Ghost Train и слегка неожиданно легкого и романтического даунтемпо Adore (Non_Fiction Mix) третий трек звучит очень поломанно. Как бы действительно Through the Smoke (сквозь дым) начинают прорисовываться черты дальнейших событий альбома. Что же там, за дымом? Калейдоскоп! Нереально сочетание перерывов и остановок, труб и вокальных сэмплов, глубокого баса и редкого плотнейшего кика. Вторая часть рушит все начинания. Четвертый трек окончательно ломает сознание.
Shock Value действительно шокирует нас богатым ассортиментом различных инструментов, бесконечных сломов ритма и очень протряхивающим басом. Он имеет очень текучую структуру и звучит с привкусом модного клубного саунда. Тем не менее, остается очень напряженным даунтемпо. Так же жестко, как Through The Smoke отключил от реальности, Daja vu возвращает в неё.
Старый добрый Koan, ребята! Новый эпический звук с сумасшедшей детализацией и высочайшим качеством исполнения! Но именно тот особый мотив, фирменная коановская мелодия с чувством как будто "то, что мне очень хочется оно ждет меня вон там, прямо за этим облаком на последнем мерцающем луче солнца, которое вот-вот закатится". Сумасшедшее ощущение, которое можно почувствовать почти на каждом из альбомов Koan. Хм ... Или, может быть, я один, кто так чувствует, а?!
Мгновение спустя все оборачивается еще раз. The Last Viewing приносит отрезвляющий холод абстрактных пространств и таинственных эхо. Среди частого неструктурированного бита есть целая жизнь, полная голосов смешных звуков и различных звуковых пузырей. А также флейты и всякие перкуссии странные. У трека определенно есть свой особенный поток. Вторая часть показывает это наиболее эффектно. К пятой минуте динамики оккупирует медленно разворачивающийся и очень плотный мотив, который вновь выходит прямиком в коановскую драматическую эпику. С каким-то пляжно-джазовым теперь оттенком.
Switchman, как ему и положено, переключает историю снова. Он теряет все признаки эмбиент среды и даунтемпо музыки и работает в стиле прогрессив хаус с очень фанковой базой. Упругий пампинг звук, далее немного с духовыми. Женский вокал придает всему особый смысл. Думаю вполне неплохо будут звучать части Switсhman в хорошей подборке прогрессив хаус, придавая миксу оригинальности и разнообразия.
A Game of Shadows предлагает слушателю множество стартов и стопов. Только к середине трека вырисовывается его настоящая природа. Однако и это не надолго. Пуски и остановки, легкие гитарные риффы и части вокала смешиваются в очень экспериментальный трек. Завершение альбома происходит в более четкой обстановке. Трек La Disparition (Non_Fiction mix) возраждает более знакомый Koan. Меланхолия и спокойствие. Лучший способ закончить альбом!
В итоге Non Fiction одновременно и экспериментальный и вполне мэйнстримовый чилл-аут альбом с добавками хауса и эмбиента. Альбом сделан с потрясающей звуко-инженерной точностью. Некоторые треки безуловное продолжение фирменного звучания проекта, тогда как другие призваны привлечь новых слушателей. Koan пытаются расширить собственные творческие границы. Вперед, Koan, вы залуживаете этого!

It all starts with the ambient. Non Fiction - brand, probably deserves to be the first to open. After all, the first is usually what is most interesting now. So we have to agree that mighty ambient pads and synthes are the main theme of the album. However, not all so simple. The first two tracks of the album opens it with a taste of wonder. Dull and pessimistic mood in The Ghost Train turnes to wonderful and bit sad but still very romantic to match the French name of the track - Adore (Non_Fiction Mix). By the third track, the listener realizes that his expectations may prove to be unjustified. After the classic gloomy downbeat ambient The Ghost Train and slightly surprisingly light downtempo Adore (Non_Fiction Mix) third track sounds very broken. Through the Smoke the features of further album development begin to form. What is there behind the smoke? Kaleidoscope! The unreal mix of breaks and stops, trumpets and vocal samples, deep deep bass and rare tight kick. The second part of Through The Smoke destroys all undertakings. The fourth track is finally breaking out.
Shock Value really shocks us with rich assortment of various instruments endless breaks and very stunning bass. It has very liquid structure and tastes as clubby urban sound. Nevertheless it stays very downtempo and tense the samó time. Daja vu brings us back to reality. As tough as we were disconnected from it by Through The Smoke.
Good old Koan, guys! The brand new epic sound with crazy definition and highest performance! Still Koan great special tune of something like "very wanted something is waiting for me there right behind that cloud on that last shimmering ray of the sun that goes down right now". Craziest feeling that one can realy feel from every Koan's album. Hmmm... or maybe its me alone who feels it?!
A moment later all things turnes around once again. The Last Viewing brings a sobering cold abstract spaces and mysterious echos. Within frequent unstructured beats there is whole life full of voices funky sounds and different sound bubbles. Also flute and strange percussions. Track definetely have its great flow. The second part showes it most powerful way. To the fifth minute dynamics occupied by slowly but very saturated tune that leads to the best koan-style epic and dramatiñ melody. With a taste of a summer beach and jazz music.
Switchman switñhes the things again and that is not a surprise now. It losts all the features of the ambient and downtempo music and runs like progressive house with a very funky base. Pumping and jamed with winds further in the track. Paded female vocals gives it special look. It is not so much danceble but sort of interesting as manifold and rich arrangements. You can surely use parts of it in the hi-quality progressive house mix to make it more original and different.
The next one A Game of Shadows offers the listener a lot of starts and stops. Only by the middle of the song emerges its true nature. But not for long. Starts and stops, light guitar riffs and vocal pieces are mixed up in the very experimental track. Completion of the album comes in a clear atmosphere. It reminds us more usual Koan-style. La Disparition (Non_Fiction Mix) is melancholic and calm. The best way to end up the album.
All in all Non Fiction is both experimental and straight chill-out album with touches of house and ambient music produced with fantastic accuracy in the sound-engineering. Some of tracks are surely is continuation of main Koan sound and some of them on the other hand are trying to catch new listeners. Project try to extend their own creative borders.
